FAQs
What is a Consumer Unit?
The consumer unit is responsible for the safe distribution and isolation of electricity in your home. Previously identified as the ‘fuse board’, the modern consumer unit is far more sustainable for maintenance. The consumer units designed to the latest UK regulations provide both RCD and Surge Protection.
Why should I replace my Consumer Unit?
Replacing your consumer unit or fuse board should be decided depending on its age and functionality. We would recommend an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to establish this. Contact us to arrange your EICR today.
Will I receive an Electrical Installation Certificate?
An electrical installation certificate will be issued to you within 5 working days of the completed inspection. We also notify building control of the new installation and you will be provided with a further certificate to show proof of completion.
How long does it take to replace a Consumer Unit?
The time required to replace a consumer unit greatly depends upon the size and condition of the current installation. It is usually completed within a day. Contact us to arrange a free quote.
What is RCD Protection?
A Residual Current Device or RCD is designed to prevent fatal electric shocks in case of contact with an exposed, conductive, live part during the event of an electrical fault. It is now a requirement for all new installations to be RCD protected. Contact us to upgrade your consumer unit and improve your electrical safety at home today.
What is Surge Protection?
A Surge Protection Device or SPD is designed to protect electrical appliances from sudden spikes in voltage which can reach over 1,000 volts. Acting as an additional safety appliance for your installation, it is recommended if you have high value electronics in your property or if you have many fixed appliances which have a high demand for power when they startup.
